This gorgeous double pendant necklace is handmade with a real Morpho Helena butterfly wing paired with a silver-dipped quartz crystal point! The top portion of this double pendant is made from a real Morpho Helena butterfly wing embedded under magnified glass and set in antique silver. (Please read below for more on how I ethically obtain the butterfly wings!) The entire pendant measures approx. 2.5" long x 1.2" wide. Your choice of short 18" chain or long 30" chain in your choice of regular silver tone metal or an upgrade to .925 Sterling Silver.
The Morpho Helena Butterfly is a very rare & therefore expensive species found in Northern South America. Its wings are an extremely metallic blue with a stunning circular white pattern. The color in the butterfly's wings is caused by the diffraction of light from millions of tiny scales on its wings. It uses this to frighten away predators, by flashing its wings rapidly.
Each necklace will come in an organza gift bag with literature on the species of butterfly!
*NOTE* No Butterflies are harmed in the making of my jewelry! All butterflies are raised on butterfly farms and sanctuaries and allowed to live their full lifespan, which averages about 1 month, and then collected and sold so that their beauty can live on! Butterfly Farming actually helps to preserve rain forests and also assures the survival of natural butterfly habitats. Native people are encouraged to grow plants and raise insects opposed to clearing land for cash crops. I am a member of and donate to the Rainforest Alliance, a nonprofit organization dedicated to preserving the Rainforest and the many species that live within it, including the Blue Morpho Butterfly!
